Chelsea capped their shortened pre-season in style with a dominant 4-1 victory over 10-man AC Milan at Stamford Bridge. Just 28 days after lifting the Club World Cup, the Blues followed up their 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen with another emphatic performance.

An own goal from Andrei Coubis, strikes from Joao Pedro, and a Liam Delap brace sealed the win for Enzo Maresca’s side. The only setback was a potential injury scare for Trevoh Chalobah, who rolled his ankle early in the second half — a concern after Levi Colwill’s recent ACL blow.

Chelsea wasted no time asserting control. Reece James’ free-kick deflected in off Coubis, before Pedro nodded home Pedro Neto’s cross moments later. Milan’s night worsened when Coubis was sent off on 18 minutes for hauling down Pedro.

The Blues kept up the pressure, with Cole Palmer twice going close, but eased off in the sweltering heat. Milan’s Rafael Leao had a header ruled out for offside before the break.

After Chalobah’s exit, substitute Estevao Willian won a penalty that Delap converted. Milan briefly replied through Youssouf Fofana, but Delap struck again with a sharp finish from Andrey Santos’ through ball.

Joao Pedro: “I’m happy to score here and to see both strikers in form. It’s great for the team.”

Reece James: “We’re confident, we’ve come a long way, and everyone’s excited for the season ahead.”
