The Ministry of Defence has pledged a thorough and transparent investigation into the August 6 helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region, which claimed eight lives, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

Speaking to chiefs in Accra on August 13, Deputy Defence Minister Brogya Genfi said the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) had already begun investigations and secured international collaboration to ensure credibility.

> “We have received positive feedback to our request for international support. Nothing will be hidden — the process will be open, and the public will be informed of exactly what happened and the cause of this tragedy,” Mr. Genfi assured

He also urged the media to avoid unverified or speculative reports.

Among the victims were Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The government declared a three-day national mourning from August 7, followed by a flower-laying ceremony and memorial service on August 9. A state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, at Black Star Square in Accra.

According to the GAF, the Z-9 helicopter departed Accra at 09:12 GMT for an anti-illegal mining operation in Obuasi but went “off the radar” before crashing. Search-and-rescue teams later confirmed that all eight on board had died.
