Ghanaian footballer Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. He faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, linked to alleged incidents that reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022 while he was playing for Arsenal.

The charges follow an investigation launched by the Metropolitan Police in February 2022, after an initial complaint was filed.

Partey, who recently left Arsenal upon the expiration of his contract, has strongly denied all allegations. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, stated that the midfielder “denies all the charges against him” and “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

The case has been transferred to the Central Criminal Court, also known as the Old Bailey, where Partey is expected to appear again on September 2.

In the midst of the legal proceedings, reports from Spain suggest that the 31-year-old is close to signing with La Liga club Villarreal.
