Ghanaian international footballer Thomas Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, following multiple serious criminal charges, including five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three women.
The charges were officially filed by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on July 4, after a three-year investigation conducted by the Metropolitan Police. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.
According to the CPS, two of the rape charges relate to one woman, three to another, and the sexual assault charge to a third complainant. The police began their investigation in February 2022 after receiving an initial report of rape.
In a statement, Partey’s lawyer Jenny Wiltshire said the 32-year-old player denies all allegations and has “fully cooperated” with investigators throughout the process.
> “He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name,” she added.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the investigation, emphasized the police’s continued support for the women involved and encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the investigation team.
Partey’s contract with Arsenal officially expired on June 30, 2025. While the club acknowledged the end of his deal, it declined to make further comments due to the ongoing legal proceedings. Both the Football Association and the Premier League have also refrained from issuing statements.
As proceedings are now active, Jaswant Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, issued a reminder to the public and media:
> “We remind everyone that criminal proceedings are now active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. Any reporting or commentary that could prejudice this case must be avoided.”
Thomas Partey joined Arsenal in October 2020 from AtlĂ©tico Madrid in a high-profile £45.3 million transfer, making 130 Premier League appearances for the club. He played a key role in Arsenal’s recent Champions League campaign and continues to be a central figure in the Ghana national team, earning over 50 caps
